During 2011, investment in the downstream oil sector in China has remained headstrong in a countrywide investment wave of building infrastructure and industrial capacity, and with an expectation of sustained growth of oil consumption, in spite of the deepening public debt crisis in the developed countries, continuous weakness of the global economy and turbulence of the world oil market and geopolitics. As a result, 2011 has again witnessed another consecutive year of impressive refining capacity expansions in China, with a double-digit increase of distillation capacity and total refining capacity going over 13 million barrels per day.
